A Shift of Perspective
In a recent post, I mentioned that God had “changed my perspective” during my recent break from writing. I should elaborate a bit and say it was a bit more than that…He refined my perspective. It was one of the best things that could have happened to me…
Allow me to explain why:
My time away was riddled with questions I didn’t have the answers to right away. It was a time of doubt, fear, pain, and loss. A pendulum like that swings you so far away from your comfort that when it returns you back to your original spot, all is changed. All I saw was God, hunkering me down and focusing me in on the things that truly matter. Compassion, peace, and His unfailing love.
Our Perspective Can Get Skewed
As we travel through our independent lives and embark on the day-to-day we get used to making decisions and seeing the world as it comes at us. Many of us lift up our day to the Lord before starting our morning and yet, there are many more who don’t. Already their mindset is clouded and their judgment is impaired. I too have started my day off like this more times than I’d like to admit. I become a casualty of trying to do life on my own.
Little things become important and mountains can be made out of mole hills. A healthy view about what God is doing and how it relates to how He is moving in my life can quickly switch to the here and now, and what seems best for the moment. Thoughts like these don’t really do much for our witness. Our minds can be made up that certain things work well for us and that’s the way they should play out. Our perception then becomes skewed and selfish.
God Can Change Your Perspective
Oh but dear friend, that is not where He wants our hearts to reside. Our thoughts and hearts are to be focused on the Heavenly and what God is doing behind the scenes, in and around us. If our vision becomes fixated on what is right in front of us then we miss the whole point. There is so much more going on than what our eyes see.
Don't focus on the here and now, focus on God's why and trust Him. #SaltandLightLinkup Share on X
If we are not careful the attitude of our hearts can be in direct proportion to what we are living out in our day to day lives. If our days are stressful, busy, and filled with worry, that can directly affect our perspective. Instead of being filled with hope we will have a negative way of looking at things.
There is a Different Aspect We Can Have on Life
“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”
2 Corinthians 4:18 NLT
Everything we face in our everyday lives is temporal. It certainly makes perfect sense that our Father would want us focused on the eternal instead.
And what lasts forever you ask?
“Three things will last forever— faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.”
1 Corinthians 13:13 NLT
So go and have faith that God will do as He promises. Have hope that He will use everything in your life for good. Last but not least, love others well and love the Lord with all your heart, mind, and soul.
Let’s not forget that His love for us surpasses everything and lasts forever.
Today I’m featuring a profound post on perspective by the amazing Jessica at Inspire the Mom. Please make sure you read her post about her recent run in with perspective and how hers got a refining too.
