How wonderful it is to be able to soak in God’s Word and dissect it down to the original meanings of the text. When we sit and meditate on His words we become refreshed in unexpected ways . However, if we are not careful we can let the distractions in our day to day lives keep us from really absorbing the word. What is intended to be a moment of meditating on God’s word can quickly turn to a box checked off on the to-do list. Or even worse, be eliminated from the list altogether.
Today Sue from Mama of Three Boys is sharing valuable insight on the importance of prioritizing God’s Word in our lives. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Sue a few months back and I can assure you that not only is she brilliant but her heart is on fire for the Lord. I know you will glean much from her insightful words.
Have you prioritized to spend quality time with God by meditating on scripture?
I always wondered how stay at home moms find time to meditate on God’s word without distraction. Where do working moms find time to meditate without being so tired?
I recently took a two week break from blogging, because I felt before I wrote another sentence, I personally needed to reevaluate my time spent with God. I admit I was not spending enough time mediating on His word, I rather took any time I had to promote my blog, and promoting became more of my priority.
Do not get me wrong, I still spent time reading the word, but I wasn’t pondering, reflecting, or contemplating anything I read. Finally, I found some babysitting, and went straight to a bookstore and sat there for 3 hours and truly meditated on God’s word. I felt so refreshed as I walked out that day; I understood what the beauty of meditation meant.
Maybe you are a mom of three, a homeschooling mom, a working mom, or a business women, and you rarely find time to read God’s word, much less to reflect on it. What is true biblical meditation all about?
Take a minute to turn to your bible and read Psalm 119:9-16.
Verses 15 -16(NKJV) says:
I will meditate on Your precepts,
And contemplate Your ways.
I will delight myself in Your statutes;
I will not forget Your word.
Do you mediate, contemplate, and delight yourself in His word?

God says to Joshua: This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.(Joshua 1:8 NKJV)
Meditate day and night? I wish I could take a nap day and night. But David says in Psalm 63:1 that he will seek the lord early, and then in verse 6 “When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.”
Have you picked a time of day and made it a priority to read and meditate? I myself need to be more intentional in this area. After we make it part of our daily routine, then we must start to personally apply the knowledge of the truth in our lives.
The Cambridge dictionary meaning of meditation says: “the act of giving your attention to only one thing.” Can we release our minds of everything else, our schedules, our laundry, and what’s for dinner, to sit before the Holy Word, and only think about this one thing?
I started appreciating and wanting to meditate even more after I read what some of the great men of God said about the subject of meditation…
“The more you read the Bible, and the more you meditate on it, the more you will be astonished with it.” Charles Spurgeon
“I saw that the most important thing I had to do was to give myself to the reading of the Word of God, and to meditation on it….What is the food of the inner man? Not prayer, but the Word of God; and…not the simple reading of the Word of God, so that it only passes through our minds, just as water runs through a pipe, but considering what we read, pondering over it, and applying it to our hearts.”George Müller
“In place of our exhaustion and spiritual fatigue, God will give us rest. All He asks is that we come to Him…that we spend a while thinking about Him, meditating on Him, talking to Him, listening in silence, occupying ourselves with Him – totally and thoroughly lost in the hiding place of His presence.” Chuck Swindoll
“As you read, pause frequently to meditate on the meaning of what you are reading. Absorb the Word into your system by dwelling on it, pondering it, going over it again and again in your mind, considering it from many different angles, until it becomes part of you.”– Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Do you feel more compelled to pick up your bible after reading these quotes? (found on www.christianquotes.info) I wish you will be more intrigued, compelled, and astonished by reading His word. Maybe you too need a two week break from something, in order to become more fruitful and more successful.
Praying This For You…
May you become more intimate with your Savior, finding full satisfaction in Christ. May you find a perfect time, without distraction to indulge on His word so that you can delight in his presence and taste and see that the Lord is Good! Let the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart be acceptable in the sight of the Lord, for He is your Rock and Redeemer. I’m asking all of this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Susan Evans says
Pondering, reflecting, or contemplating on God’s Word really does change our lives because the words become a part of who we are. We become doers of the Word and not only hearers.
Natalie Venegas says
Amen Susan! It’s imperative that we put His word into action by being obedient to His call. Lovely for you to stop in!
